So, obviously you have room for the languishers? Like maybe a half full greenhouse?

Hmm..keep or dump? I've gotten to the point that I don't purchase/let myself be gifted with anything that will not take cool night temps. That means that most of the big showy catts and their ilk are out (I don't like them anyway), as are phals, oncidiums, vanda, etc. Once in a while I will break down and take something interesting home, but if it sulks for the winter in the GH it goes to a warmer home (where it usually grows like a weed--happy to be out of the tundra I suppose )
All that said, I agree with the basics said by the rest: if it's a noid or a mass produced meristem that's not performing, out it goes (if I think it's temp. related nonperfomance, I give it to someone who grows warmer); if it's something rare/special I try to accomodate it, but it'll probably end up on the society raffle table if it continues to just grow...

Ross, leaving space for some more difficult plants that one possibly hasn't 'cracked' the care of yet (my take on your 'non-performers' ) is quite similar to those of us who also devote quite a percentage of space to growing seedlings. Some of the seedlings I have here won't even think about flowers for another 5 years or more.

I guess it all also depends on what you consider 'non-performance'?

Point taken! I guess what triggered this thread is the few plants I've discarded because I "had no chance". I gave a few examples earlier. My best example is Angraecum monticola. According to a new member to the board who grows and reproduces Angraecoides commercially (or at least has extensive experience.) http://www.orchidboard.com/community...-everyone.html Keegan is his name. He told me that, while I was doing everything correctly with my monticola, I had little chance of ever blooming it. That is one I was going to dump, till I heard Becca wanted a chance at it. It's hers now. (Now prove me wrong, Becca )

I chose to keep it. I don't have a lot of room at all but I get kinda attached to my orchids. I can't even imagine giving one away. I totally understand why others wouldn't want to keep a non-performer though. I think part of my problem is that I really believe that the orchids I have that don't bloom is due to my past negligence. I've learned a lot on here and I'm also putting a lot more effort into it now. Give me another year or two and my thoughts will have probably changed.
