I hate repotting cymbidiums

I can't remember the 9 circles of hell (undoubtedly my future digs) but I can only hope I am not wicked enough to land in the circle where you repot cymbidiums for all eternity

They are beasts, undoubtedly! I use my private mantra as I go thru repotting “but the flowers are gorgeous”( repeat 50 times).

Where do you keep your cyms in August, when it is really hot?

I used to hate repotting cymbidiums as a kid because the pots (5 gallon pickle buckets with holes drilled in the bottom) always had a few black widow spiders hanging out in them! My parents had several rows of them against the back fence in these buckets and they'd split them with an axe and give the leftovers to neighbors.

I used to summer them outdoors but kept forgetting to water them as they got a lot of light. The winters were very suboptimal as I had nowhere to put them and stuck them in the basement with poor natural light. Even so the outdoors really helped them and they bloomed semi-regularly. Now they are going straight into the basement GH under LED lights and will stay there year round (aside from going outside in the fall briefly for a chill). Hoping to repot again in maybe 3+ years!

I bought a half dozen cymbidiums over 10 years ago from SBOE and this is what is left...

Grow it in a gigantic pot. By the time it reaches the edges the center part will have died, and it will fall apart when you unpot it.

My on this..
Not sure about your climate but I grow mine outdoors year round. In summer it's frequent, if not most of the time, to have temps between 35 and 40ºC (lately some days higher) and winters around 0 to 5ºC min (some days below freezing).

My bigger Cymbs grow in clay pots so large that one person alone can't handle them.
As for my repot strategy, I'm waiting for the pots to break.

They handled temps in the 90’sF for most of summer, we had them against the fence where branches from the neighbor’s trees gave them a little bit of shade in late afternoon. Some of the leaves got a bit sunburned but they bloomed great.

My first orchid was a Cym given to me by a co-worker who lived inland - fairly frequent days of triple-digit F temps (38-40 C or more) in summer (She grew them under a big deciduous tree... shade in summer, lots of light in winter when leaves dropped, frequent winter night temps near freezing). To show how cold-tolerant they are, I a refer people to this: Ice - Freeze of 2007 . I saw the plant with the big sunset-color flowers shown on the site, 2 weeks later in a show... not only did it survive the cold, it was still show-quality. No damage at all to the flowers. Cyms are fine down to about 29 deg F (-2 C) Below that you may lose some buds and flowers, but the plants can take a few more degrees of frost especially if they can warm up a bit during the day.
