My husband and I finally tied the knot and I would like to commemorate the occasion by purchasing an orchid with a name that is on theme (or kinda on theme). So, who better to ask for suggestions than the wonderful and oh-so-knowledgeable OB members!
I'm open to any type of orchid that will do well in the conditions I can provide.
My indoor growing conditions:
Warm season temps 22-29C/72-84F and not normally below 20C/68F at night.
Cool season temps 20-24C/68-75F (sometimes a little higher) and no lower than 17C/63F at night.
Humidity is usually 40-60% but occasionally dips lower when we have the house open. Almost always rebounds at night after we close up.
Light - I can provide natural light anywhere in the range of 500-3,000 foot candles. We have mostly-unobstructed east and south windows, some with and without sheer curtains. A very small plant can sit on my side table under my only grow light that provides 500-800 fc for 11-12 hours.
Outdoor plants will need to survive 3-41C/37-105F over the year. We can occasionally dip lower or go higher but not often. Humidity is unpredictable but mostly falls between 20-70%. Light = anything. Full sun, morning/afternoon sun, light/moderate/all-day shade, you name it I can probably provide it.
Other info:
I love Phals and they do extremely well for me. Currently only have two species with hybrids making up the rest of the lot. I'm leery of the truly exclusively hot-growers. I do have heat mats, so if that's all they'll need, feel free to suggest them!
I acquired a Zygopetalum and an Oncidium-hybrid in September, both have been repotted, and both are still alive. The Zygo is putting out a new growth and everything looks good as far as I can tell. The Degarmoara/Wilhelmara still looks good after an emergency repot at the wrong time in its growth cycle.
Let me know what you think!
