Default Conversation with AOS President

All,
I had fun chat with AOS President Jay Balchan. We talked about the future of the AOS, plus some interesting discussion about OrchidWiz and the AOS.

Here is the link: https://youtu.be/7XZrNhdrOqg

Just watched the video. Nice job, as usual, Stephen.

I’m glad the AOS is moving in the direction of a complete orchid database, over and above the awarded-plant one in Orchid Pro. Obviously, “sucking in” the existing data from Orchid Wiz would be the easiest way to go, but I suppose a lot of that relies on Alex Maximiano’s position.

It would be really great to merge the two databases, but I think we'll just have to wait and see. I am also glad to see the existing AOS database expand to encompass more than just awards!

Alas, even if AOS is able to merge the OW database, highly unlikely to every be a replacement - that culture information in OW is really valuable (at least to me) and I doubt very much that AOS would be interested in that, unless it wants to take over management of the program. THAT would be a real benefit. For looking up pedigrees, orchidroots.com can provide that. But it's the details of habitat and culture contained in the Baker sheets that's so important.

I suspect the AOS committee considering any OW tie-up will understand the importance of the Baker sheets! I guess we'll just to wait and see how this progresses.
