I don't know, they're responsive to email so suggest asking. Whatever it is, I think it will be addressed, since their intention is to make sure it keeps working for people. I inquired since while I'm concerned about the issue that my computer isn't going to last forever. (I'm not up to upgrading inside the box, but at some point I'll be needing to buy a new one) and was reassured that they have thought about the activation issue and are working on a solution.

Oh wow, I need this! I'm downloading the demo - if I decide to get the full version is it the same size as the demo?

I didn't know that they had a separate demo version. If it's the regular download (10.8 GB or thereabouts) if you choose to buy it would be the same, you would not need to download again, but you'd get a license key to keep it working. (Otherwise it just stops working in 30 days). And I highly recommend it. If you buy now the price will include the next major release in September, and an update in December before they close up shop. Then, it will continue to work as long as Microsoft continues to support the underlying Access database, which I think will be for many years - it's a very stable platform. After the end of December, there won't be the updates of new hybrid registrations, but there are other places to get those. There is so much already in there (that won't change) it is very much worth it.

FWIW, I read somewhere that they are in negotiations with the AOS, but neither party is to disclose anything until sometime in September.

That would be great if AOS doesn't break it...

Oh wow that's amazing software. It does depend on some old libraries. I had to install .NET 4 and Jet 4 to get it running on WINE on Linux. You could install a linux vm and get it running that way if that doesn't work on Win 10+. I quit using Windows when they started updating the user interface without explanation or permission and trying to push everyone into a MS account just to use their own computers.

If you got it to run at all outside Windows, that's neat! It is sold as "Windows only" though it will run in a Windows partition on a Mac.

I mentioned previously it could be packaged as a virtual machine. Then anybody with that virtual machine software could run it on their system. Virtual machine software is available for almost all operating systems.

Virtual machine software is installed on a system. It emulates another operating system. A program running in a virtual machine thinks it is running under whatever operating system the virtual machine is set to.

OrchidWiz only runs on Windows. With a virtual machine somebody with another operating system - iOS, Linux, an older version of Windows, even OS/2 - can run OrchidWiz in a virtual machine.

I don't think it would be difficult to package OrchidWiz as a virtual machine. I don't have the knowledge to do so but there are no doubt lots of people who could do it.

Exactly why I left both MS and Apple (Mac) behind. I have always been able to run any program I needed with my Linux machine. Now, if 8 could come up with the purchase price for Or hidden I'd be set!

I think I could put that together - the end user would have to run a couple of commands to get the .NET and JET libraries (MS intellectual property, user needs to sign EULA) but instructions wouldn't be that hard to follow I don't think.
