I am far from being a prude...
...but shouldn't we be better at choosing our words?
I see posts about "Root Porn" and "Flower Porn", suggesting pornography is a good thing.
(OK. Got that off my mind. Resume doing what you were doing.)

I agree with you, Ray. Those types of thread titles have bothered me from the get-go. (And I'm not a prude, either.)

i would happily change the name of my thread knowing it bothers some.
just so you know and understand the joke, at least from me.
pornography is in the eye of the beholder but it is defined as :
printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings.
to me, the incredibly phallic and vaginal attributes that these plants have coupled with the fact that the pics are without context and explanation (no aesthetic or emotional setting) it was a humorous double entendre to me.
if a mod wants to assist me i would rename my thread but i not think there is anything wrong with pornography intrinsically. i recognize that the actual (pornographic)industry is full of abuse and unfair treatment of women but that is like saying all erotica is bad as a result.

I’ll add that porn-shaming (or shaming behavior like sex work) helps the people that are taking advantage of the system and causing harm by keeping it at the fringes of society where it is difficult to monitor. Porn and sex work aren’t for everyone but there’s nothing wrong with either one so long as everybody is consenting. If you don’t want to watch porn, don’t watch it.
Change the name of the thread, or don’t. Is it an appropriate title? For some it’s fine but for others it may not be, but please help end the shame cycle associated with topics like porn and sex work. At the end of the day, shaming those activities works to continue the abuse and harm of people involved in the industry.

Good grief! I WASN'T TRYING TO SHAME ANYONE! And, yes, I'm yelling.
I also wasn't suggesting the titles of the existing threads be changed, just hoping this is not a trend that is going to continue down the rabbit hole.
PLEASE tell me this thread isn't going to deteriorate into a discussion of and/or detailed explanation of pornography and those who may enjoy it or make their living from it. The topic of this thread, as I understood it from the OP, is are you comfortable seeing the word "Porn" in thread titles?
I came here for the orchids.

Here, here! The above says it all.
Wowie, another thread about someone's likes and dislikes about a word (guess all words are becoming politically incorrect in today's world). A no-brainer comprehending the humor of a word used in DC's (and other's) threads. But, I guess iconoclasts truly enjoy attacking words... if nothing more, at least it's a thread starter.

You know what I really wanna see? Good 'ol backbulb porn. Call it like you want, but a fat, plump Catasetum sure gives me a healthy dose of endorphins and oxytocin.

I appreciate Ray expressing his opinion respectfully and the responses that respectfully add color to the conversation. We all should take each other's feelings into account no matter which side of the political / social spectrum they are coming at you from.

Mountaineer, your comment wasn't what I was referring to.
Ray's suggestion that porn isn't a good thing is the issue. Porn created between consenting adults and provided to a willing audience is a-ok. If someone prefers to not watch it, cool, but shaming the creators or the watchers simply because they enjoy it isn't ok.
I also have no problems with the use of root-porn/flower-porn or other applications of the word "porn". It's a word with a definition and can be used to describe non-sex activities if the chosen application fits the definition.

The ironic thing is the criticism of Ray taking offence to a word is a bigger criticism in itself even though I have done it myself I don't see the justification in this case.
I don't want to blow on the flame any more. I think Ray has a point and is entitled to his view.
I think the name might put off members clicking on those threads as much. When I come on OB with a cup of coffee in the morning the last thing on my mind is porn so even though it isn't, the link in people's brain still exists and it might be ok as an occasional afternoon joke but not as the most viewed threads on the board maybe.
I think we should change the titles but I don't want to be the one to be blamed when it does get changed, clearly some like it.
I mean if we change the titles to root ramblings and flower power I'm not sure it would make it any better.. Maybe my names are no good. Bloom Bonanza?
