Angraecum Wishlist
Hello all,
I recently got an order from a place called afriorchids from South Africa. I asked for a preorder for Tamiami and ended up not being able to go and this disappointed me immensely
A couple of weeks later though, I found out that apparently they could not go either and they instead shipped what I wanted to preorder from an event at cal-orchids.
I got an Angraecum stella-africae, a longicalcar, a Mystacidium venosum, and a Cyrtorchis crassifolia. So far they all look great. That said they gave me cravings.
I complied a list of all the other angraeoids on my wishlist.
Here it is:
Aeranthes setipes
Angraecum Appalachian Star
Angraecum birrimense (want a 2nd one)
Angraecum compactum
Angraecum Compactolena
Angraecum Cloud's Christmas Cradle
Angraecum Crestwood (already have one but want another)
Angraecum curnowianum (have one but want another. Not to be confused with Aerangis curnowiana)
Angraecum dollii (Very Green Version)
Angraecum eichlerianum
Angraecum elephantinum
Angraecum infundibulare
Angraecum Joyce Stewart (2nd one)
Angraecum Lady Lisa
Angraecum liliodorum
Angraecum Memoria Namaste
Angraecum North Star
Angraecum obesum
Angraecum praestans
Angraecum protensum
Angraecum sororium
Angraecum Veitchii
Angraecum viguieri
Angraecum White Lioness
Right now, I will have to be content with my Lemforde White Beauty (pictured below and sits on my nightstand) and my Lai’s star (about to bloom.j

You might consider shooting a note to Brenda Oviatt at Botanica Orchids in Missouola; she specializes in Angraecoids and might have some leads for you.

Hello all,
Thank you for your replies.
I have purchased plants from these two vendors (LOC & Botanica Ltd) before and have been very happy with the quality of the plants.
That said, I seem to find it to be a bit difficult to get in touch with them. I have sent some emails recently and I don’t usually hear back. They both have phone numbers listed but I feel really funny calling on the phone and try to avoid that at all costs.
Diamond orchids is also another really good Angraecum source and seems to be a lot easier to get ahold of. Mostlyspecies and Cal-orchids also have some cool and quality things I’ve found.
Are there any others I don’t know about?

I've only ever corresponded with Brenda via facebook, you might try that. I don't grow Angraecum, but Hausermann's in Chicagoland has them on occasion, as do Orchid Dynasty (Salt Lake City Area) & Natt's Orchids (Chicagoland area as well)
You might also see which of the international nurseries will be at Tamiami (Jan 2022) & the Pacific Orchid Expo (Feb 2022)

I don't see an Angraecum cucullatum on your list.
It looks a lot like a list I would title: orchids that might flower long after I'm no longer around but the cucullatum is part of that group
The rutenbergianum gets far too little attention imo

I spoke with John at LOC via email not long ago. Try going through the website, if you haven't already.

That is true. I forgot about the cucullatum. I could also use a pseudofilicornu or scottianum maybe. I don’t know how I feel about the ramosum and those other spidery ones like the germinyanum. There’s also aloifolium and drouhardii which don’t seem as interesting.
I am a bit apprehensive about the rutenbergianum as I can never tell it apart from the didieri or elephantinum and I hear they are often mislabeled between those three.

I tried using the emails on the website listed under contact. I hate to be a pest but I could try it again. I wanted a plant and I know they’ve had them in the very recent past but it isn’t showing up on the website anymore.
I did hear back from them once about it several weeks ago and they said they had some and would list them but never did. I feel silly to keep bothering them about it. I can be a very annoying and persistent customer sometimes when it comes to orchids.
I worry sometimes about this because there is someone with a business in my family and they have a “some customers are not worth having” category. I am always worried about being banished to that whenever I over contact a store

you'll make up for it if you end up buying lots from them.
It's the customers that waste your time, then buy little and return it all with a complaint that I should imagine get banished to the "unwanted customer" list.
Like someone who puts up an inflatable swimming pool on a rocky surface, then comes back the next day with a soggy pool half packed in the box saying it has holes in it, they want to return it
I read about one customer who got banned after buying and returning 12 tv's within one year from the same shop. He said he suffered from a rare eye condition and none of the tv's were as good as the one he was replacing. That one is a bit of a pickle but I can't blame the shop for having enough of him.

I bought some Asics trail running shoes years ago at an athletic shoe store. In the first week part of the sole of one shoe split. When I took them back they said "You didn't run on any rocks, did you?" I pointed out all trails in Arizona have rocks. They gave me a hard time about a refund. Some years later the shop was completely obliterated by a night-time gas explosion when nobody was there. I didn't do it.
