I have been looking at this sub reddit the last several days, and have come to the Superman syndrome, i.e. "I can't save them all!"
So much questionable advice. So many people pointing to Miss Orchid Girl. Even had some Bozo telling me "aerial roots are useless." SMH

it’s fun to scroll thru and easily look at a bunch of flower pics, which is nice. otherwise yeah, i tend to stay away from reddit these days and instead stare at the orchids like a crazy one. i agree, that place gets tiring.

Yeah, something like that. More like I can't ban some of them for life! Especially the ones who keep telling newbies to watch Miss Orchid Girl.

I don’t understand the desire to help without actually trying to help.

If you don’t know what you are talking about why do you feel the need to be talking?

So far I haven't seen her post anything on reddit. There are one or two people there who, when answering newbie questions, make this the first thing out of their mouths. She promotes the use of hydrogen peroxide on roots.

Most of the people on here have no clue what they are talking about yet you see the same old faces making the same remarks day after day insulting the people that do know what they are talking about.

Dusty has entered the phase of realizing the first year orchids will develop based on how they were grown previously. Listening to the usual garbage advice given here will only make growers as good as the perceived wisdom these people have. Ie average.

It's not truly what you need to know to grow them well. They will grow, sure. But how about making them grow twice as good? On this forum I only see a couple of people and they don't participate in the daily garbage exchange for good reason that have achieved this, saying something other than garbage on here just makes people like Dusty call them a noob.

I have come to the conclusion there are two types of growers, the people that grow orchids for their flowers and then there are the serious growers that try to understand what their orchids need in order to flower reliably every year. This is a good forum for beginners to chat about orchids but start talking about what orchids truly need to thrive and nobody knows what is what anymore.

The difference being similar to a boss and the secretary in a company. The secretaries will always slag off the boss. It doesn't mean they know what they are talking about.

You could classify me as a non-serious orchid grower.
I collect many other plants and have limited space since I grow in the home. Lately, I have been slowly downsizing the orchid part of the plant collection to make room for new plants that capture my interest. I will always have some orchids but these are the ones that have earned their place in my orchid collection.

I occasionally read the reddit orchid posts. I really do like Reddit so I have an account...maybe one day, when I have more time, I will become active and post. Reddit is a fun place.
