There I said it. I find OB great for spending some time checking out orchids but the people that have proclaimed themselves as experts on this forum don't even grow orchids anymore a lot of times so if you want to nit pick well miss orchid girl she at least has over 500 orchids.
You have to know a bit if you grow that many orchids and she has taught me a lot just like this board has taught me a lot.
Just like this board has plenty of nonsense, I mean I will mention the harmonica shaped leaves on orchids yet again, nobody has bothered to discover why it happens, it was just decided it is lack of watering or the fact that all problems stem from underwatering according to some. No I disagree with these a lot just like with hers.
But I still come on OB and I still watch her videos when I'm bored. You have to be able to not take everything said literally and not trust strangers opinion without questioning it or getting a second opinion.
Do I disagree with a lot of the stuff said on here? Yep for sure. Do I laugh when people say this board has a lot of combined knowlege - yep.
I know people will take offence to that, no problem. I am not saying it to offend, I am saying it as my personal observational viewpoint. Ask yourslef - you can chose to take offence at what I am saying or you could awknowledge that it wouldn't be a bad thing if this board could save more orchids.
The people that seem to be the most knowledgeable people on here are just the people that insist they are correct the most. I take it with a pinch of salt. If someone says they once sold orchids for a living.... well that doesn't mean much, it just shows they didn't really learn much in that time if they have decided to pack it in afterwards.
I would rather learn from an orchid enthusiast who loves orchids than someone who grew up with them and then decided to give up growing them because they were too much work.
The day I give up growing orchids is the day I won't have anything interesting to say anymore.
No offence but I know I would learn far more from an enthusiast who hasn't got any qualifications than a qualified person who doesn't care what he is preaching about.
Orchids are a journey and we have to shape our own path along the way. I try to learn from others all the time and then convert it into something that will work for me.
For exaple I don't get on growing in moss, that doesn't mean it's no good, it just means it's no good for my journey.

Then why bother coming here if you don't like it?
