Zoom Orchid Chat
As an experiment, last Tuesday I held a test session with 5 participants. It was offered on the Facebook Semi-Hydroponic Orchid Growing page, so that was the primary topic, but certainly not the only one.
In addition to a few newer growers, there were a couple of longer-term ones, including a gentleman from New Zealand and one of the "curators" of the AOS collection in Florida.
The meeting lasted about 90 minutes and was well reviewed by all.
So... This coming Tuesday, 9 Feb @ 11:00 am EST, I will hold another such session. I am billing it as a general Q & A session, so anyone (up to 10 people) with an interest in discussing orchid stuff is invited to join.

Thanks, Ray. I'll be working (gratitude!) I'm going to remind our speaker chair about you. I think you spoke to our society on S/H before I joined.

Nope. Never did make it out there.

To expand on this a bit, subjects in the last session included feeding, fertilizer, potting media, humidity management, how'd you get started growing orchids, etc.
It's a great way to put a face on that name you've known for a while, too.

Had a last-minute cancellation if someone wants to jump in.

I'm not sure why, but I had not noticed this thread before now. It's certainly something I would be interested in for future talks. I'm doing a lot via Zoom or Webex these days.

I gave a talk to the Greater Akron OS (and a few folks from Western PA) last night, so I'm getting more comfortable with Zoom. (A benefit of retirement is not having to participate in a lot of meetings...)
Right now, I'm using the 11 am Tuesday slot as it fits with my wife's schedule, but I'm sure we can find other times, as well.
I'm thinking that it might be beneficial to do "subject matter" meetings, so interested folks can participate in something that fits with their interests.

How many spots will you have for your next meeting? I'm kinda new to this Zoom stuff and am looking into setting up a tablet so I can join in at some point.

I had 10 slots this time. Only 6 actually participated.
I'll shoot for 10 again next week, so I can see how it goes.

I'm sorry to be just now seeing this, I'd like to join next time. Unfortunately I'm only free evenings and weekends.
