Anon, what a great idea. I am going to pass that idea over to all my friends still shopping in stores. I use pick up at wallymart, cause it is free and the first time I used that I got everything I ordered except diet pepsi. my addiction for years and years; Oh well, there is always tea.

I have started wiping down everything that comes in my house from Walmart, with a bleach and water solution, 1/3 cup to the gallon.

I have macular degeneration and today they called to cancel my appointment next week, it takes 6 months to get one scheduled. But I am happy they are cancelling most medical appointments in NM.

So I went to PT today, and found out we go into lockdown at midnight tonight. So much for avoiding news to skip hearing continuous tales of sickness, woe, panic, and potential mayhem. I'm not an ostrich with my head in the sand, but I'm no Chicken Little either. In my opinion, there comes a time when one is informed, but no need to be beaten over the head with the same info over and over and over again. It makes me grumpy. Especially the ones who constantly whine about it.

On an interesting note, we went to the grocery store yesterday and got everything on our list except for a package of paper towels. Yes, there were tons of shelves and spaces empty. Kinda makes me wonder if we just have weird cooking habits, or enjoy things others don't care for. Hmmmm...

We’ve been under stay at home orders for nearly a week now. When the order first came out / was on the horizon there was lots of panic buying. But, everyone seems to be stocked up now and most items are back on the shelves although some stores are limiting how many of certain items you can buy.

I’ve had to make a few forays out and so far everyone in the stores has been maintaining a good social distance. There are only 26 cases in my county so far, I really hope we can keep the infection rate low. I’ve got a lot of family in New York and it’s shaping up to be pretty scary there.

Glad to know I've not the only one getting tired of the near constant coverage of nothing but despair and more despair.... It's wearing me out mentally. And I want to throw stuff at the tv when they talk about self centered idiots who feel like restrictions shouldn't concern them. I've stopped watching TV and stopped reading most my RSS news feeds. I check the national public health website daily just to get the important information which directly affects me (like new restrictions).

To all of you in lock down or about to be, good luck. We are in semi-lock down in the Netherlands (very strict rules and staying home is reccomended but not yet mandatory). I don't know how I would manage cooped up in my apartment without access to my allottment garden down the road... Gardening is an extremely efficient stress reliever, so I go every day while I can.

Camille I too am tired of the news and have turned it off. If I need to know something, I do it on line.
We have a strict order to stay at home except for essential business, like picking up groceries that were ordered on line. Amazon and I are on a first name basis, as I order needed supplies for masks. Our (USA) country is welcoming...at least the hospitals and nursing homes are, the DIY cotton mask for work unrelated it those in the Covid19 area of the hospital. Even those with the N95 are using DIY mask to wear over their respirator mask to save the safer mask and try to use one mask, all day covered and taken on and off between patients.

re Gardening. I would miss it if I did not rent a space that has a garden atrium that is the width of the living room, and has a planting area with real dirt that reaches to the soil under my home. I have plans to start planting as soon as it warms up here. Still moderately cool/cold and very windy.

Having spread 420 bags of mulch in our yard, Michele & I turned our attention to other outdoor planting.

I found a cedar raised bed cheaper than I could build it - it should arrive today - so we went to Lowe’s for base gravel, soil, and some vegetables, herbs, and v flowers for the boxes on our deck. Stopped at a produce stand on the way home.

We are lucky to have N95 masks (she’s a retired PT, so had them for working with patients) and wore gloves when in the stores. Back in the car - gloves in trash, take off mask, then disinfect hands with homemade gel (2 parts 99.9% isopropanol, 1 part Aloe vera gel, tiny amount of essential oil of lavender - it’s much nicer than Purel).

I also keep a package of disinfecting bleach wipes in the car. Had to get gas, so used one in-between fingers and touch screen, then between my hand and the nozzle. When I was all done, get the hands completely and toss it. More gel in the car, just to be safe.

Additionally - if you have restaurants you like to visit, go order take-out and/or buy gift certificates from them. They aren’t going to make money, but cash flow might keep them afloat and pay employees at least something.

We've completed 2 weeks of full lockdown now in Spain, but the infections and the deaths are still rising dramatically. Our lockdown has been extended for a further 15 days. On our little island we have 30 people infected, 29 are self isolating at home and 1 is in hospital. I person has recovered.
We now have just 2 flights a day in and out, to our 2 main islands, only for essential movement such as health staff or people having (non COVID) treatment at the bigger hospitals there. The only international flights in the last week have been virtually empty planes arriving to repatriate holidaymakers. The few passengers coming in were 'coming home'. All hotels and tourist accommodation have closed.
Our inter island ferries have been reduced and are just for commercial vehicles - necessary to bring our food which comes from the mainland to a neighbouring island and then in lorries to us. Apart from the first few days of panic buying our supermarkets have been well stocked, except for a sudden shortage of chocolate, one of my essential food groups!
We are only allowed out of our houses to go shopping at our nearest supermarket (and only 1 person per car), to the hospital in an emergency (no one can accompany you in, and all visiting of patients has been stopped). We can go to the nearest pharmacy. All shops except food retailers and electronics are shut. We can go to the Bank ATM, not inside, all bank business has to be transacted online and we can go to the petrol station and pay through the night window. 1 person per house is allowed to take a dog for a short walk. The police and army are patrolling the roads and stopping cars to ask where we are going/why. We have to carry our ID (as we do normally) and proof of our trip, ie receipts from pharmacy/fuel/bags of shopping - or risk a fine of a minimum of 600€.
Most people have been really good about the restrictions although my OH is finding it hard going with no sport on TV to watch! I've been really busy in the garden. It is soooo quiet! Normally very quiet but this is spooky quiet! Thank goodness I've got a dog and can get out for 10 mins twice a day for a change of scenery. I'm only going to the supermarket once a week, for fresh fruit & veg, to minimise risk. The freezer is slowly emptying to plan.
I did have to chuckle the other day though. A man on a neighbouring island was fined 600€ for putting a lead on a chicken and taking it for a walk! The video clip was hilarious. I know he was breaking the rules and we have to take this very seriously but I think he deserves a medal for putting a smile on all our faces. I would happily donate 10€ towards his fine - he wasn't in contact with other people.

Ty for the chuckle and we all needed that.
In USA, we are three weeks behind Spain and the rest of Europe in getting our fedral (sic) national government to take this seriously.
Here in NM we have 200 cases with 55 added today, and so far only one death. New York has become the new epicenter and it is fast moving westward. wake up America/ Listen to our friends in Spain.

I had to look up your nick because I am rusty in the Spanish I spoke in Mexico in the 1980s.
