It's very interesting, and somehow gratifying, to me that we have a Board with folks in many different areas. It's good to hear from people in other countries, plus the US also weighing in about what's going on in their own neck of the woods.
And I agree with AliceInWL... the response even here in the US is very differing as to how folks react. Give it a few weeks, and it will be even more "interesting" than it already is. Meanwhile, take good care my fellow members.

If you want a good laugh in these less than cheerful circumstances, guess what the Dutch were hoarding yesterday. Weed!
Yesterday afternoon the government annonced that along with the closure of schools, that all restaurants, bars and coffee shops were closing that very evening, at 6pm. The result was massive lines in front of all the coffee shops....

So from what I understand, the situation in the the US is that there no central action taken by the US government, and each state is deciding itself on what measures to implement and when? It's a bit like europe where there is no EU wide action, but each country making its own decisions.

Lots of weed hoarding going on here on the west coast USA Honestly, it will make quarantine much more enjoyable and I highly recommend it, although I recommend keeping your lungs strong and making edibles.

It's been more than a week now since I was last out to a big grocery store. At that time, shelves were all fully stocked. All of that has changed now, as seen on our local news. But what I found a bit amusing (and we have to try to find a little humor in all of this, I guess) is that the liquor aisle was very, very busy, and the ice cream freezers were half empty. I guess, for a lot of people, booze and ice cream were the essentials!
In all seriousness, I too am very concerned by the apathy amongst some groups of people. Seeing pictures on this morning's news of the crowds of young people on the beaches of Florida, acting like it's just another day, seeing crowds gathered in bars, etc. Bars are now closed in my state, I believe, but we all know some people will just continue to gather and party in big crowds at somebody's house.
We're senior citizens. We have health issues. We're hunkered down for now. To all of you, I wish you the best, stay safe, stay healthy!

Ah, coffee shops dispensing herb. Nope, nope, not here in Kansas! Perhaps I should do a poll? If you could only hoard one thing, would it be pot, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, or booze? Hmmmmmm.......
Oh Camille, there's central action at the federal level, then each state deciding what measures, then governors of each state, then council of each county, then mayors of city/town. We have more than enough chiefs to last us a lifetime. However, the way we're structured it's more of a trickle up effect. Folks make decisions, higher ups can make different ones, on up the chain of command. Then we get to the top and it all starts to trickle down again. It would be a bit easier with a few less chiefs, but potential for a whole lot scarier with fewer folks making the decisions. What a conundrum, eh?

Went to the grocery store today.
Certainly there was no hand sanitizer or toilet paper, but what surprised me the most was that there was zero chicken in the store! Plenty of wine, though.

Same here. The Aussie Gvt has dithered in the same way as the US gvt and now we are settling in for a long quiet time at home as going out is more risk then it’s worth. Actually, I don’t mind being forced to do what I was probably going to do anyway - so I can relax and read without feeling I should be doing something.
Our main problem is that we were moving house on the weekend the hoarding behaviour started and were without electronic communication for 3 days, so by the time we heard about what was happening the supermarkets were stripped of rice, pasta, noodles, toilet paper and anything long-lasting like tinned food. We spoke to a few people over the moving in period and even had friends help but no-one thought to mention what was going on - I guess they thought we knew.
Now I’m hungrily eyeing off the wild ducks in the bay across the road.

I hope you'll be able to make some basic provisions soon. The hoarding behavior is just appalling and completely out of control. I guess you'll be having duck for dinner?
