It was a difficult year for me as I was having a difficult time finding a job. But finally, after one year of rejections, I found one! To congratulate me an orchid friend who I met via Instagram sent me some orchids... The orchid growing community is amazing <3

Follow the link for a video of the unboxing, if you're interested to see what she sent me.

Enjoy your new orchids! And congratulations on your new job. Just a word about IDs... Both "directions" of a cross bear the same name. So Phal Samera can be either violacea x bellina or bellina x violacea. The name listed first in the cross is the pod parent and the other is the pollen parent. So, the two may look different - the pod parent has mitochondrial DNA that may have influence beyond the nuclear DNA of the two parents. But your original plant was not wrongly named, it may indeed be the reverse cross. And, at any rate, different individuals from the same pod of a given cross may also look different (just as different children with the same parents will not be identical) The only way to be sure of getting a flower that is identical to another of the same cross is vegetative reproduction such as division or mericloning. Here you have a flower, so you know that is what you are looking for. Again, enjoy!

I'm glad you've found a job...In two months I will be in your position but it might be a little harder to me due to my age...experience nowadays doesn't count that much.

What's your line of work, may I ask?

Oh! Someone else told me that this is not the case. Either way, I look forward to seeing them in bloom simultaneously (hopefully next year) so that I can compare them!

I find that experience is key. I couldn't find anything because I have none. But they want you to have about 5 years experience - more becomes expensive for them, I suppose... It's all rather silly and depressing.

I have found a position as a research assistant at the university of Lausanne in Switzerland! That means that I will be helping to prepare practicals and exercises for uni students for 50% of the time, and working on my own research for a PhD the other 50% of the time. So, if all goes well, I'll be a Dr. in 5 years As for my field of work/study, it's Forensic Sciences. My PhD will be about using drone-mounted technologies to find clandestine graves.

That is so sweet, I just recently place one of my flower pots at work as it gives color and life to my surroundings.

Be careful! Your office conditions in Switzerland and those in the Philippines might not be the same, nor might the plants grown there!

Obviously. I'll just see what my office is like first and then choose an appropriate plant. shouldn't be too different from my home environment anyway, since AC barely exists here.
