Those of you who read my posts lately know that I've been trying to find how to cultivate Laelia vasconcelosiana.
This spieces was discovered in 2010 by Reginaldo Vasconcelos in the mountains of Minas Gerais, in Brasil.
Because is a newly discovered species it's not common in collections and information is scarse.
Another interesting fact is that, after its discovery, it was cultivated by a brasilian vendor called Colibri Orchids, I think, in order investigate a suitable propagation method to put in the market only propagated plants instead of collected from the wild.

So, Laelia (now Cattleya) vasconcelosiana...anyone wants to join?

I've sent you a msg about it. Haven't you recieved it?

He gave me his contact but haven't call him yet as I have a lot of things going on at work. Tomorrow maybe I'll call him.

I would be interested in this project. Do you have more detailed information on the growing conditions (I assume that it would be similar to other rupiculous laelias?).

Do you have suggestions for vendors?

The growing conditions are the same, in general, as for other rupiculous, i.e., warm/ hot days and cool nights.
Humidity is low during the day and high at night.
Light should be strong, full sum during the early hrs of the day and then really bright indirect light (shaded).

I will try to find vendors in the US and around. If I find any I'll post but the best option is to look for brazilian vendors at shows.

In the US, Andy's Orchids has very nice rupiculous Laelias. (If you don't see what you want on the website, send an email and ask, the website is very incomplete.) Floralia (from Brazil) sells at many shows in the US and also has these little gems.

Francisco Miranda has this species. Miranda Orchids...click on "Laelia - Regular". He has a large selection of rupic laelias...he's really expanded this side of the business in the past few years. LOTS of rupics!!

I've purchased many plants from Francisco over the years and have always been very happy w/my purchases. They are usually small plants but the quality is excellent.

Note that sometimes this spieces is classified as Cattleya.

I don't think the Brazillians accept the classification... I know that they still call their purpuratas "Laelia". Lumping them all into Cattleya certainly makes it harder to characterize the species when one is looking for a particular one.

Many of them call it Laelia while others, to avoid conflict (I think) call it Hoffmannseggella.
I was just pointing it out to those that are looking for it for sale.
