Oncidium Twinkle - Repot and unexpected division

My small twinkle has been growing in 10 to 15 mm rough diameter scoria rock pieces .... for nearly 1 year now. The spike is currently developing the second round of buds ....and the plant developed two new growths. The scoria media is great.

I just use the water spray wand to water only the media ..... as much water as we like. I found that everyday watering .... or as much as we want .... is no problem with scoria. Air circulation is quite good here. Total dry out conditions is no problem as well.

Watering the sides around the bulb (and getting water on the sides of the bulb) is no problem.

I definitely agree that it is a good idea to avoid getting water into the pocket regions at the base of the leaves .... to avoid water trapping and rot. So just watering the media and the root area and sides of the bulbs is just fine.

In the attached image, I had only just finished watering the media ..... which is 100% scoria rock.

That’s adorable. I don’t have any Twinkles for some reason but I really like the color in this one!

As I'm sure you know, there are two more varieties, white and yellow. Once I thought about getting one of each to have the complete collection but as I'm out of space, I decided not to get them.

Look around, rbarata. There are more than two others, including a couple new crosses! Your foliage looks good. As usual, a nice job!

Anyway, the probability for this spike to bloom is low/medium so now it's a waiting game. I've been putting it under 70% HR at night and 30% by day.

rbarata, I live in New Mexico, south west USA, hot dry summer, cold sometime moist in winter. I bought a NOID what they told me was a den. But after research, I think it is an Oncidium twinkle. blooms look very much like your red onc. pbulb, there are three, seem to be in good condition, two slightly ridged, but I am hydrating. Just got her yesterday. I don't know the names of the parts of orchids yet. first bulb one I have bought. it is tiny, with one stem and 9 blooms and a bud, major portion is lemon yellow, and the rest is mottled purple wine in color. I would love to ID this baby and learn all about it. Someone told me to use small volcanic rocks, I am sure I could find or order a bit. but I see you have your's in bark and spag. I am allergic to Spag moss causes asthma even when wet, so I try to avoid it. I would love to grow it in small, the smallest in my lot, of LECA. anyone else use LECA with mini Onc's

What size is your pot SP? my stem looks different from your blooming one. could it be the age of the twinkle?

Do you know where I could find a close up of the yellows? and also of the bulbs. I have taken photos but have not figured out yet how to post here. but as Scarlet once said, "there is always tomorrow"

Photos will help tremendously. Without them, we're only guessing.

There is a product called Synthic. It's micro fiber strands. I sometimes layer it in with my fine bark for moisture. It might be an option where moss is not.

When you get pictures, you might want to start a new thread.

thank you Dolly, I was thinking the same thing. I am putting these all in a file to re back too and I have started reseaching twinkles here and on line. I posted over in Onc.
