Onc. Sharry Baby "sweet fragrance" blooms and question
Default Onc. Sharry Baby "sweet fragrance" blooms and question

This is the third year I have owned this plant and although I have 4 spikes this year I am concerned. I have leaf tip die back, heavy spotting and leaf drop. It still has green leaves but they are spotting heavily now also. I have sprayed for pests with castille soal and hemp oil.

Any ideas what is up with this? I know the spots are semi normal, but tje leaves look very sickly.

I sesame crinkly leaves so it seems to need more water.

I see crinkly leaves too. Up the watering. It's hard to overwater these. I often let mine stand in a saucer of water. My leaf tips sometimes brown. If it's harder than they like water or what I don't know, spots seem endemic to the species too. However, yours seem more severe. It may be those are older leaves you will naturally lose.

As to the difference between the two, some someone more expert than me will have to weigh in.

Things to consider:

> Insufficient humidity
> Insufficient water (or a poor root system that simply cannot take it up fast enough) - although the pseudobulbs look OK
> Overfeeding

I do underwater routinely, so that might be it. It seems to have lots of healthy roots from what I see in the pot. Overfeeding could be it also, I realized that my fertilizing schedule caused a few plants to abort buds.

I live in Phoenix and I have observed that my plants bloom without a humidifier, so away it went. It is monsoon season, so I assume the humidity goes from 10 to 20 percent. That could be it also. I mostly grow phals and cattleyas which for the most part have no leaf issues in this humidity range, but that doesn't mean this is true for oncidiums.

Thanks everyone, I have some variables to tinker with now. I think I will start with the watering issue.
