Oncidium fluxuosum - Orchid Board

Hi, I own one orchid so far, and it is called a yellow "Oncidium Fluxuosum" AKA "Dancing ladies." the orchid pot is sitting on an eggcrate and the pot is sitting above a humidity tray. It is also located on the south side window with plenty of shade and light. Well, It has been a week now and I have been searching on google for hours on end. Yet still I can not find much information on the internet about "Fluxuosums" and not many forum members here or other forums are posting much about this hybrid in particular. So far, there are no other orchids that I am interested in, but I love my orchid and want to learn more.

This plant is probably not a hybrid, but the species oncidium flexuosum.

It's fairly typical for oncidium culture, easy to grow and bloom.

My flowers have all fallen off now, and the stem has nearly dried up, should I cut off the stem at the base?

There appears to be a spike growing out at the base of my oldest bulb which is also where the other spike finished blooming. I am not sure what I need to do now, but I will post a picture for clarification.

I don't think I have the Fluxuosum variant, my flowers are at least 1.5" across.

that's not a spike, it's a new growth (soon to be new pseudobulb). you can cut the old spike all the way at the base where it exits the pseudobulb if you haven't already.

Does it require any speacial attention? The bulb seems to hanging off to the side.

just leave it be, it'll find its way. many oncidiums have a habit of sprawling wherever they feel like, so just let it do its thing and it will grow just fine. by the way, if you're in need of repotting (which you probably are, especially if it's in the same pot and media as when you bought it), now is likely a good time to do it. check the visible roots, and if you see a number of green tips, go for it! search around on this site, I'm sure someone has a repotting guide on here somewhere...
