Default Odcdm. Tiger Hambuhren ‘Goldilocks’ AM/AOS X Oda. Jubilee Volunteer ‘Royal Flush’ HCC

First two photos show early opened flower with yellow lip; third one shows matured bloom with blushed lip.

This is a Tom Perlite (San Francisco, Golden Gate orchids, who only keeps a handful of Onc alliance plants now) cross, purchased from Cal-Orchid in Santa Barbara this fall.

It had no roots when I bought it! And may very well not have them now. But about a month after I got it it started pushing out this spike. It's quite large and with all that energy stored in the bulbs, I think it will root just fine once it's done with this spike (which is just about kaput now).

Are these fairly compact growers?

I saw a few different clones of Onc. Tiger Hambuhren in flower recently and I was impressed with how large the flowers were, especially in proportion to the size of the bulbs. I do tend to fancy the yellower clones and hybrids, but this hybrid does a decent job of preserving some of the bright tones.

Is it just the camera and lighting or is it safe to assume they start out bright yellow and then as they age the yellow starts to fade and the pink/purple tones take over.

Hi,

see the first line of my post. It's not the lighting - the flower opens with a yellow lip and matures to the blush color.

This is anything but a compact plant! It's very large. The spike is 1-2 feet long (I didn't measure it, I trained it in an 'S' shape), and with one or two mature growths it barely fits in a 4" pot.

These large flowers aren't out of proportion to the large bulbs. I haven't counted, there are 8-12 blossoms on the one spike.

Ha! You're describing a small Oncidium.

I'm bad at estimating lengths. I measured the spike, which isn't straight since I trained it. It's about 33-34". The PBs aren't huge, it's true, but I think they were bigger before. they've dried out because the plant was purchased 6 months ago without roots, and has been putting its energy into this big inflorescence.

In my mind, I was imagining the PBs of Rossioglossum Bob Hamilton, incorrectly. That's a large plant.
