Odontocidium short flower spike? Male
Default Odontocidium short flower spike?

Hi everyone,

I have an odontocidium ‘wildcat’ that just started to spike a few weeks ago however it only has 4 buds and the spike is extremely short, does anyone know why? I remember it having at least 10 flowers when I first bought it. Thanks

While I cannot speak to your specific situation, in general I would chalk that up to some deficiency in its culture that hasn't allowed it to build up the fuel and energy stores necessary for fuller blooming.

Let me say this, though: unless you have never fed it, it is likely NOT related to food.

Notice the pleated leaf growing from the top center of the pseudobulb. That indicates the plant didn't get enough water while that leaf was developing. That probably also accounts for the fewer flowers. These are thirsty plants.

Actually what happened was that the leaves stuck together and I had to free it manually, but it was already too late, the leaves had already pleated. I never allowed the medium to go dry so I know for sure I was watering it enough
