Oncidium ampliatum
This plant was a very sad withered bag baby a couple years ago. Got them to discount it, and it's done very well. It tried to bloom last year, but the squirrels got the spike. Tried to bloom again a couple months ago, one again it was squirrel snacks. When it started sending out this spike, I said the devil with it and took the plant to my mom's house where there are more cats to keep the squirrels a bit more respectful. Glad to finally get to see it!

didn't realize those damn things ate flowers...! I thought they were horrible enough eating all the fruits and veggie I grow.

Seriously glad your mule ear bloomed. They are great plants but, huge! Good you can keep yours outside.

Psst . . . Although O. ampliatum is a large plant, it isn't a "mule ear". AFAIK, the mule ears are in genus Trichocentrum, such as T. splendidum, along with the "rat-tails". Plants in the genus Lophiaris are also considered mule ears.

Yup those damn things will be the death of me I swear. I've had them devour full Bulbo.'s, Catt. keikis, and even buds in my Vanda that were the size of walnuts... them damn fuzzy tailed rats got there's coming just wait

Squirrels . . . yeah, I have Bill Murray/Carl Spackler gopher flashbacks when I start thinking about squirrels.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, you are too young, and are clearly not a fan of low-brow comedy (which can be truly awesome at the right moment).
