Oncidium limminghei weird leaf

Hello everyone,

Anyone here is growing or familiar with oncidium limminghei?

I've had this for a few months. I have 2 new bulbs forming, one of which the leaf is not opening up? Like if it was stuck? Attached a picture. It's mounted on cork with sphagnum Moss, allowed to almost fully dry between watering. Regular water and fertilizer. About 1500 FC currently getting high temperature of 25 C (sunny days) or 21 C cold cloudy days with a night temp of 17 C. Humidity in the 55 you 70% range.

The bulb I attached a picture of had been growing since November. It seems fine except for the leaf. It's currently pushing out a bunch of roots.

I also noticed it doesn't have mottled foliage...?? Is that normal? From what I'm reading that species always has mottled leaves, but am reading that it develops this under high light..?

I'm starting to run out of space... a few minis allows me to have more plants per square ft!

Unlike my friend, ES, I love plants this small - in fact, I've just completed an area for minis. Your plant is fine. Sometimes orchid leaves stay "folded" like yours for a while as they grow. I have a Brassavola digbyana currently doing the same thing, but the leaf will open as it matures.

That's an Oncidium? Looks like my Sophronitis. If the leaf is still stuck when mature, press the edges lightly and it should open (what happened with my Soph).

More often seen now as Psychopsiella or even Psychopsis rather than Oncidium. The plant does appear normal and healthy, but 1500 fc is way at the low end of the light range for this species. Bring it up to 2000+ fc gradually and you should see leaf markings become prominent, and folded leaves less frequent.

I've been struggling with this one for a couple years now, I've heard from many it's a pretty challenging plant... I would say that's normal for a new growth. It'll not quite open for a very long time then all of a sudden open. Roots can form after a leaf gets a certain size but also form after a leaf has fully opened. They are painfully slow growing.

The catch is they cannot get too much water but can't dry out completely either. I just rotted out two leaves that took a year to form because I didn't realize they were sitting wet too long. However, if they dry out for too long that'll desiccate the roots. That looks like too much moss to me, most specimens I'm seen happiest are growing on mount directly, although I wouldn't mess with it too much as it doesn't like roots to be messed with. your watering schedule is probably fine if you let it almost dry out.

I would agree to bumb up the light to 2000 fc, the mottling of the leaves would be prominent when given proper light levels. But don't give to high... again everything in moderation with this one.
