Oncidium sharry baby
Hello!
I got a single psuedobulb of Onc. sharry baby last year, and it has grown quickly to seven. It's finally sent out one spike and it's about to bloom.
Does the famous chocolaty scent start immediately after blooming, during the day/night etc? I was sniffing the half-open flowers and didn't smell a thing. (i'm getting impatient, haha)

It normally takes a few days to develop. Oncidiums tend to smell strongest during the day, especially when bright and warm. Not all have the chocolate scent, some have more of a vanilla scent.

great growing. Looks very healthy and happy. The blooms need to be open and then as JCEC1 said, warm and light seems to bring out the fragrance.

Hey,
Thanks for the info. Only a third of the buds have opened so far, but I can't wait!
@rbarata,
I just potted up the psuedobulb in a medium orchid mix I found at HD. It seemed dehydrated in the coarse mix, so I decided to soak the pot in standing water + very weak fertilizer at all times. I change it every other day. It seem to have really helped. It immediately sprouted out two shoots, then another four before the first two fully matured. I noticed today that it's sprouting 4 new shoots!
Mine never seems to rest and it just keeps growing steadily all year long... Is that unusual for this oncidium, or oncidiums in general?

You have found a plant that does very well in your environment. In warmer environments with the degree of wetness you're providing it might rot rapidly. Most people grow this in chunky mix and water frequently. You've shown it wants a lot more water than most people give it.

My oncidiums do seem to grow all year long, maybe a little slower in winter, but still growing.

I finally smell it!
Reminds me of Cocoa Puffs cereal...? Milk and fake chocolate!
