Probably a bird. Apparently it didn't like the taste. That's very minor damage. My macaw bit completely through a pseudobulb and deeply into another on my Vazqueziella back in January. For the longest time I could look right through the one. Eventually the tissue above the bite on the bad one died, but it's healing well below. The other wounds healed nicely. I did use cinnamon on that, but probably wouldn't bother in this case. Keep those wounds dry and they'll heal quickly. Plants are always at risk outdoors, the trick is to take the steps necessary to minimize the risk while reaping the rewards. I grow inside old bird cages, more for convenience and appearance than security, but you could give it a try.
