What is this new growth? (Tolumnia)

Hi,

So I recently got this lovely little tolumnia orchid at my orchid society meeting. After studying it a little more closely, I noticed three little green growths near the base.

I'm thinking they might be flower spikes, but it seems the current flower spike and the remnants of previous ones seem to come from between the leaves. They are not roots, as there are roots growing which obviously look like roots. It seems to grow fat little fans of leaves, as opposed to how these look (long, thin, green and pointed).

Help me out! What are they??

Beautiful plant. It is very possible they're bloom spikes. You'll know soon enough!

New growth I would imagine. Spikes normally come up in-between the leaves. But, it doesn't really look like what I would expect New growth to look like, either ...

That is weird looking. looks like growth but small seedling like growth. Could it be a Keiki? Only time will tell for sure what it is. I don't think it is a spike be cause Spikes tend to have tips to them these look like leaves.

Could be new growth growing different due to environmental changes???

Keep up posted I will like to see what it turns out to be.

Hitchhiker, maybe?

I've had other orchids/plants show up in my orchid pots.

Right now I have some weird little plant in a den pot that I haven't removed yet because I'm trying to figure out what it is. One time I had a succulent seedling sprout in another orchid. And, one time I had a Cynorkis fastigata show up in a pot. So weird but it does sometimes happen.

One of my Tolumnias has thrown one of these weird leaf things as well. However, the Tolumnia in question is completely miserable and so nothing has really changed, so I can't tell you what it is. Hopefully someone else will come along and tell us.

Is your miserable Tolumnia in a pot or mounted? I've been amazed how much I have to water my mounted ones to prevent shriveling. I soak them for several hours 1-2 times per week, and spray them with water or fertilizer once a day.

I have one from our society's raffle table that another member gave up on. It was severely shriveled. In the 6 weeks I've had it, it's filled out, begun growing new roots and looks great.
