Default Sharry Baby ID help

Hello!

I purchased what is supposed to be a Sharry Baby Sweet Fragrance. It only had a spike when I got it and no buds, now that the flowers are formed and the first opened today, I can clearly see this is not the Sweet Fragrance. It looks like the Sharry Baby Tricolor, I will go back to the nursery and see what they think, however wanted you guys opinion. Also, my understanding is that the Tricolor is not a registered hybrid? Is that correct? I'm really disappointed, was looking forward to that one : (

Was also wondering when is it fragrant? So far this has no scent at all. Only the first flower has started to open and is not fully deployed yet.

Thanks!
Emmanuel

Don't give up on fragrance yet. The fragrance with most Oncidium hybrids is during the warmest, sunniest, most humid part of the day. Sometimes it takes a few days for the fragrance to appear. On a cool, cloudy day, there might be no fragrance released.

There are several Sharry Baby's that look like yours. I wonder if the cultivar 'Sweet Fragrance' has more fragrance than some and therefore its name. I would contact the nursery and maybe they have one in bloom that will confirm you are getting a 'Sweet Fragrance' one. Are they nearby so you can get it??

That is not the 'Sweet Fragrance' cultivar, as that doesn't have any yellow coloration, but it does look like other cultivars I have seen, and they are all fragrant. Mine with the yellow tips like that smells more like vanilla than cocoa butter, but it's still wonderful.

In case anyone is interested, I went to the nursery and they confirmed tags got mixed up, it is indeed the Tricolor clone which is registered. The fragrance is now present in the AM and it is heavenly. They offered me a discount on the Sweet Fragrance clone which I know own! Love this plant thanks everyone

Way to go. Now when that one blooms do let us know if they smell the same. I am just wondering as we were talking about Twinkles and how they might small different or it is just different noses. So with your same nose perhaps you can tell us.

Tri color varieties I have seen are Yellow Panda and Mikasa (sp?). I'm not sure if they are of the same stuff under different names, though.
