'Tis the Oncidium "Sharry Baby" Season
I have been seeing that there is a lot of "Sharry Baby" posts happening on this forum - it must be the season! I'm still a novice, and have only had the orchid bug for a little over a year, so I wasn't aware that I wasn't the only one with growth and blooms on mine
My Oncidium Sharry Baby 'Ruby Doll' that my boyfriend bought me for my birthday last year (November 23rd) has bloomed again! I was gone for Memorial Day, and came back to an explosion of blooms. She just started to express her fragrance this morning. I've counted 45 blossoms in total (counting both spikes), give or take a few. The spike is not as tall as the one when I got her, but she has tons more blooms. They are larger and richer in color, too!
I roughly plotted the growth of the spike, from emergence of the spike(s) to actual blooms, and it was about 6-7 weeks. Is that pretty standard? I live in Oregon, where we had a very warm Spring, so I am wondering if that has anything to do with it
Thanks for looking!
Melia
