hELLO:
NEW AT THIS FORUM BUT HAVE BEEN GROWING ORCHIDS FOR A YEAR OR SO. i BOUGHT 12 oNCIDIUMS EQUITANT IN oCT LAST YEAR. aT THE TIME SOME WERE IN SPIKE AND BLOOMED. aT THE TIME i WAS RAISING PLANTS INSIDE IN A ROOM WITH HIGH OUTPUT led LIGHTS. tHIS YEAR NONE OF MY oNCIDIUMS HAVE SPIKED. qUESTION IS: iF NONE OF THE EQUITANT onC'S SPIKED IN THE SPRING I AM GUESSING THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH LIGHT IN THE ROOM I HAD THEM IN. SINCE THEN I HAVE PURCHASED A GREENH9OUSE AND THAT WAS A MONTH AGO. IF THE BLOOM PERIOD FOR THESE PLANTS HAS PASSED BY THEN THEY WILL NOT SPIKE UNTIL IT IS TIME TO SPIKE IN THE FALL. I AM GUESSING THISIS THE ANSWER AS NOW THEY GET 6-7 HOURS OF LIGHT IN GEORGIA AND LIGHTR MEASURES AROUND 2000-2500FC.

THANKSFOR LISTENING TO ME BABBLE ABOUT NON BLOOMING PLANTS.

My tolumnias (equitant oncidiums) always seemed to initiate spikes in late winter - I don't know if they can spike at other times of the year. They do like a rather good amount of light. I grew mine outside getting bright mid to late afternoon sun (a few hours, tho not as much as 6-7 hours), when night temps stayed above 50; and in a south facing window in winter, getting sun almost all (short) day.

I rather thought that was the problem as I didn;t think there was enough light inside to initiate the spikes. I now have them in a greenhouse where they get proper light and humidity. Guess I will just have to wait until fall and see what happens.

I've only had 3 of these type but they always bloom in late winter to spring.
