Call me a sucker, my Buck Hollow came into bloom, better colors than last year and I suddenly remembered how great they are (oh and almost getting some at a show). And they're so compact!!
Really I had to fight a bit for these on ebay, lol. I've been wanting to find some that are different from those I see are quite common, nothing wrong with that though.
I got them couple days ago. I believe one of them has scale. I scraped the supposed culprits off with my nails and treated today with cinnamon/alcohol/water/dishsoap
concoction (took a guess at proportions
). I'm not so worried given these being small plants and arriving bare root. Plus I'm not potting them traditionally.
So I decided I'm going to try fiber pots, the kind you'd grow regular plant seedlings in. I put some clay pebbles in the bottom then filled half way with coconut coir. From there I basically just set the plants on top of the coir and stabilized with rhizome clips (if they function/stay in place well enough I'll keep them there until the plants have stabilized themselves with root growth).
Maybe I broke the "if it ain't broke don't fix it rule" by not copying my current Tolumnia potting exactly but they are intergenerics and I'd like to know if I can do even better with these. I guess you can say I tweaked the original recipe a bit. Will keep you all posted how it turns out. I'm a bit nerd-fully excited about these fiber pots, they seem like they could be great period.
Dumb part though is
I went to work on the scale before taking pics to send to the vendor. From all the pics I saw online I really do think it's white scale. Only the one seems to have had it but I treated both. In a couple of weeks I'll treat with Neem if I deem necessary.
