This little oncidium finally bloomed for me after many years of struggling. It came to me as an unknown that I literally found nearly dead on the side of the road. I nursed it back to health in the first year, and it started to bloom, but it was beset by a swarm of aphids as soon as the flowers began to open. The aphids nearly killed it that year, as well as the following year, when the same scenario replayed itself. The year after that it got scale.
Seemed like I could never win with it, but it kept hanging on, and this year when I saw it begin to spike I was ready, and sure enough, as soon as the flowers began to open, the aphids showed up. I sprayed them whenever I saw them with isopropyl alcohol, and managed to nip them in the bud.
So, even though I know this plant is capable of much more impressive displays, I am quite proud of the 3 tiny flowers I managed to coax out of it. I think it is a variety of oncidium twinkle, maybe.
