Brassia arachnoidea

The first act arrived a month ago, and after a bit of an intermission, act two has started! There are 12 amazing little spidery flowers on this particular spike. I've been keeping the humidity up as best as possible, since a cold (and dry) spell lead to a bit of damage to the delicate lips last month.

The fragrance is so unique and interesting, plus it's fairly powerful. At it's peak, it will fill a small room. It's not a classically "pretty" scent, but I like it.

This species has proven to be vigorous and not particularly demanding. The aerial roots are sensitive to low humidity, so the tips tend to die off in winter for me, but the plant doesn't seem to care one bit about it. I grow it bright, warm, and on the wet side of things .... basically like a Miltonia ... and it appears to like these conditions.

I just love that last photo, it's like a work of art.
