Default dividing psychopsis

I would like to divide my psychopis mariposa G.V. alba after or flowered. I bought it at the WOC 21, it has about 10 growths with 2 being new and 1 flowering spike. It is planted in sphagnum mios and I would like to change it to bark. If you could just tell me if I could devide it because I hear it does not like being devided. Happy growing!

I have never divided mine so I have no advice on that. Was wondering why you would want to divide it though.

I would personally not mount it. They are water hogs and I don't know if you would get good flowering with one mounted. Just my 2 cents worth.

O, so I would then just after the bloom repot it into a bark mix and leave it intact.

I would if I were you. But that is me. I keep mine sitting in a saucer of water that almost never dries out. I also have it in fairly high light. My first one was double spiked and I kept it too dry and it died on me. If yours it used to drier conditions, I would slowly increase the water and light it gets. It may just take right off for you.

And you do realize that they can bloom for years on the same spike.

I keep mine wet till I see the media is starting to dry out. I also previously had a papilo wich also died of to little water. Yes I do know that they bloom of the same spike for years I have one that starts forming a new bud as soon as the previous flower falls of.

Emergency!! My psychopsis that I wanted to divide has developed black spots on his second youngest growth. And his newest growth has started turning black. I am emidiatly going to repot it tomorrow in a fresh mix of bark. I think it might be broken down spagnum mos. It is blooming but the survival of the plant is more important. Aaah!!!!

I've grown Psychopsis before, they don't generally do well in full Sphagnum moss as a potting medium. I'd use medium grade bark instead.

They like to dry out between waterings, but not by days. Let it dry out, but as soon as it dries, water again. I also don't like to grow them very wet, because I've found that they can rot quite easily as well.

I also would not be so ready to divide Psychopsis. They are somewhat slower growing than their Oncidium cousins.

These like it intermediate to warm.

Bright indirect light.

Hope you can save your Psychopsis.

Wow, King. According to your observations I am doing everything wrong and getting great results. I keep my almost constantly wet and have it in almost full sun. It gets 55 at night right now and up to 90 in the day depending on the amount of sun. Humidity usually runs over 65%.
