I was looking at my new Nelly Isler orchids (who are burregarea formerly, but now oncidopsis apparently, but seem to fit best in the oncidium alliance imo) recently and noticed a few things.
1- There are little dots all over the leaves of the plants. I thought these were scale and attempted to treat them as such (insecticidal/miticidal/fungicidal combo spray containing neem oil, along with rubbing them with alcohol), but I could not get them off for the life of me!
It was then suggested to me that they are not, in fact, scale insect, but blisters due to edema of my plant. I would be really relieved if they were not scale- what do you guys think?
There is an article on blistering if you google "St augustine orchid society orchid blistering" that was helpful for me, but I'm still not sure.
2- I noticed as I repotted them (for fear of bad store potting media and for fear of insect infestation) that some of the new growths were so loose that I could almost pull them off the plant. I thought, "How strange," and I've been thinking all day, and I think I may not have one but two keikis coming off these beautiful plants.
I would be ecstatic, but I wanted to know what you guys thought.
3- In the case of these being keikis, what ever do I do with them???
Here is a link to a video I made showing the plants:
