Plump purple pbulbs, wrinkled leaves, and . . . spike?? Female
Default Plump purple pbulbs, wrinkled leaves, and . . . spike??

This is a Wils. Aloha Sparks 'Halloween' that I have 2 questions about:
  1. Is that a spike in pic 1, or a new leaf?
  2. Why are the leaves from this one purple plump pbulb wrinkled?

All pics - including spike/leaf - are from from the same purple pbulb. I believe it is an older one. I always thought wrinkled leaves mean underwatering, but the pbulb is plump.

Any ideas?

That's a spike.

"Accordian pleating" of leaves of Oncidium alliance plants usually means borderline water supply problems. Low humidity with heat or high air flow? Temporary dryness just as a leaf is expanding? Beginning root problems?

PaphMadMan, that makes sense - I had this and about half my collection outside since May. There were times when they got too much water (couldn't stop the rain) and WAY too much heat. I'll bet the heat did it. I explained in another post that, for these reasons - uncontrollable conditions - I will NEVER do outside again. I can provide excellent conditions inside with T5s, a humidifier and "knowledge by error" watering. Thanks!

PS: Yay! A spike!
