I wish I could take full credit for this but I got it in spike about a month ago. However, in the interim I've managed to not break off the spike or kill the entire plant, so I'm pretty proud of myself for that lol

Thanks! I do too. Actually I love anything with a pbulb, they're so much more forgiving I have a noid Brassia that's pushing out my very first home grown spike despite me annihilating the glorious root system it had when I got it, whereas all my poor Phals are limping along. Just can't quite get the hang of them and I feel so guilty when they look at me reproachfully because the rest of my orchids are joyfully pushing out new roots and growths. I refuse to give up but for some reason (overwatering) I can't seem to get it right

You might find that some of the den phal hybrids work for you too. I have one that I got at TJs, a NOID that started growing a new cane almost as soon as the flowers dropped. I've got it potted in bark mixed with maybe 10% sphagnum moss. I also have a couple of miniature dendrobium hybrids, Dendrobium Micro Chip (which supposedly blooms all the time) and Dendrobium Mini Snowflake, which started growing new canes as soon as I got it home. I do mist the top of their pots daily and water once weekly, fertilize weakly, weekly. That's pretty much it. The named hybrids I mentioned, are not the type that need winter rest. They just grow. Some Dendrobiums do need a winter rest and I'm not sure I could manage that properly, so I avoid those.

I love oncidiums and anything in their family for the same reason you do, pretty forgiving as long as you give them enough light and enough water and sometimes, if you forget to water them, well they don't mind that so much. Just don't forget a lot.

Phals aren't for everyone. I like them, because I can stick them in the window and leave them alone for a week. No misting, no fussing... just don't mess with 'em and they grow for me. If I move them from their spot, they either burn or they sulk. If the pot gets turned, the leaves get this crazy helicopter look that is just unattractive. So, I have to put them back in their spot, exactly the way they were before.

None of that is hard, but it's a lot to think about while you're doing things with them. It's not as easy as oncidiums, which don't care about what direction they're oriented in. Phals do.

Its a beauty! Good growing!

I agree you will get the hang of phals. It took me about a year to get them growing well. Now they do very well for me. Don't give up on them if thats what you like.

Thank you for posting this photo, and if you don't mind, feel free to post some more!

I have seen this plant for sale on eBay from Kawamoto orchids in Hawaii I think. Their photos aren't so good of it, so your photo gives me a much better idea of what it looks like.

I don't know how they bred this thing without any spots. Just amazing.

Also: if you are a Phal killer, mount one. I'm serious. Find a suitable mount and stick it on there. I am also an overwaterer—I love to drench my plants, it makes me feel like I am doing something 'good' for them, if you know what I mean.

I mounted a discount Phal from Lowe's 'Table of Death' as one user put it. It was horribly dehydrated with floppy leaves and dessicated roots. I let the roots sit in water for a week, then strapped that thing to a piece of hickory bark with some sphagnum, hung it outside under a tree, spray it with the hose DAILY, and now look at it!
