Beautiful festive colors. The flower have just opened = it will flatten and get bigger some....don't cut the spikes unless it dries out and browns....there will be more flowers on the same spike now that it has started to bloom.

I have a mendenhall - these are in my top three favorites...beautiful plant and I am excited for you that the second spike is coming - nice work!

I am in utter shock this morning , this was on a window sill , and during the night my wife decided to drop the blinds not noticing the precious mariposa , the weight of the blind snapped off the spike and flower head !!!!! , i am not very happy today:mad:

Don't cut the broken spike back...it might branch. I've had it happen. It took a few months but it did branch and then kept right on going as if nothing had happened.
