The spikes will bow as the blooms start. Depending upon how long the spikes are and how many blooms, they may hang down a lot, which can present problems when moving the plant for watering, and possibly with where the plant may be growing.

My Sharry Baby gets very long spikes, heavily branched, with a ton of flowers. If not staked, it's very hard to manage everything, and when it was in a smaller pot (5"), the plant always toppled over when spike wasn't staked.

I use "short" (12-18") ring stakes - they hold the spikes up a bit, but still allow for the lovely bowing for most of the spike length.

I used long bamboo skewers for now- I'll have to order something from repotme when I order pots. I just want something thin because there are four 3 foot spikes.

I have gotten the ring stakes (metal, coated with some plastic-y material) from HD, and hardware store
But bamboo stakes get the job done, and can be cut to the length you want!
