Oncidium oliganthum - autogamous?
I have an O. oliganthum growing in the garden which put out several spikes this year. What has surprised me is the number of pollinated flowers, more than 50% of them have been pollinated. None of my other Oncidiums have been pollinated without my intervention, so either this species pollinates itself or by some freak coincidence one of our native bees is a match for this species. Given the very specific relationship between orchids and their pollinators, I'd wager on the former. I've read an anecdotal account that this species can self-pollinate the last 2 or 3 flowers on the spike, but this is happening to most of them. Any ideas?
