3 years ago I found one bulb and a half on a friend's greenhouse floor, which had fallen apart from a much larger plant. I was allowerd to take it home. It proved to be an easy grower and now rewarded me with the first flower.

Question

Fantastic color! It's quite a runner I'm finding out. My spectabilis var. moreliana doesn't fit well in a round pot and I've read that it can be put onto a horizontal type raft. The roots seem shallow so maybe even an oval, shallower pot? How's yours grown?

I believe spectabilis var. moreliana was a project. I read it grows well. I bought one in a 2 1/2" pot last year and mounted it on a piece of tree fern. It grew well over the Winter but hasen't done much this Summer. I wonder if it needs a lot of humidity. Hopefully mine will bloom soon. The flower is really great with the dark purple color even if there is only one on the inflorescence.
