Default Onc. Sharry Baby

Here are these years blooms. Not very impressive, but no less pleasant. The smell is enough to fill the apartment and just in time for the new year too!!! I think for the next year, I am resolute to keep it more humid. The color is darker than this picture.

I'm jealous. My Sharry Baby doesn't bloom.I think I'm doing evrything recommended, but it will not cooperate. The leaves on mine don't have the healthy look that yours do. Yours looks great!

My Sharry Baby is in bloom too. I love the chocolate fragrance. I divided it several months ago and am waiting for the division to spike too. You can never have too much chocolate around.

For some unknown reason to me, this year's spike was only 6 or 7 inches tall. Usually it is 20+ inches tall with many more flowers. Can anyone offer any ideas as to why?

Nancy, I can tell you that lighting does not seem to be an issue with blooming this plant.

The same happened to mine, last year I counted exactly 50 blooms on a huge spike but this years is half of that only 25 blooms on a not so huge spike. I dont know what the problem is though.

There seems to be huge variation in ornithorhynchum hybrids. I have a couple (but not Sharry Baby) and some years the spikes are short and some, they get 4 feet with only 2-3 flowers at the end! I hate it when THAT happens!

Thanks for the hint on lighting, tindomul. That lets out one possible problem for me. I don't have very good luck with any of the Oncidium alliance. Mtdm. Bartley Schwartz 'Highland' is the only one that always looks healthy. Oh,if Sharry baby looked only half as good!

OMG! That would be really sad for me. I would be shammed to show that one off. I am happy with what I have now.

Mine just finished with two smallish (10-15 blooms) spikes and now has sent up a spike with only 5 blooms on it! It usually blooms in spring and late summer as well with the summer spikes having at least 40 flowers on them! I'm amazed at how adaptable it is. Mine goes from 95 degree summers in part shade and 90% humidity to a fairly dim indoor growing area with low humidity. It blooms, grows and thrives no matter what.
