I am not sure why, but with Oncidium alliance orchids, I like the species. Try these:

Oncidium ampliatum (aka Rossioglossum ampliatum or Chelyorchis ampliata)

Oncidium sphacelatum

Oncidium splendidum (aka Trichocentrum splendiidum) a "mule ear" type, prefers it drier and sunnier than other oncidiums.

Aspasia lunata (likes to be grown on a mount)

(Italics indicate what I think the currently accepted name is).
