They usually make more than one growth depending on the size of the plant. yours looks like it will make 2 growths. once they appear, monitor the moisture around the roots and fertilize every two weeks with a balanced fertilizer or one with a higher nitrogen ratio. They are also sensitive to salt build ups so make sure you flush atleast once a month. goodluck!
Thanks for this info!

Keep them in the cool spot otherwise the flower will open up very white compared to your current bloom, unless you like whiter version of this.

goodluck! they are very beautiful even when not in flower. when grown in the right conditions, their foliage appears to have a bluish tint to them with grassy appearance which makes them unique and beautiful even when not in flower. I can only handle 3 right now cause of space issues. they need a specific spot in my apartment to keep them thriving otherwise, they sulk. With modern hybridization, they are becoming more heat tolerant with more colors and varieties coming into the market.

Oh this is good info! I have two in a cart online right now and I'm scared to buy them for fear of how hard they seem to be to keep growing well.

Now I have a western window that I plan on putting that window film on for privacy, I started another thread about the kitchen window for this. But the bathroom, with it's good humidity seems like it might work for these babies.

Few questions:

how much light do they need? Is shaded sun all afternoon ok? With the film it won't be direct, but it might make it "darker" in summer when the leaves are out.

how cold is good for them. I ask because this window probably could use replacing due to the cold that comes through. Now with the heater below it and the cold from the window I'd say it stays about 55 at night and 65-68 during the day from fall through early spring. But summer it might get hot. I'm not sure until this coming summer, it'll be our first in this house. But if the leaves cover the window it'll keep it cooler.

the temps sound about right. New hybrids nowadays are a lot tougher than ten or twenty years ago... they can take quite a bit of light but shaded afternoon sun is good. They have thin leaves so they will easily burn. They like good humidity too. In the summer, i keep mine on the floor or near the floor because it's cooler.

Difficult to make out, but is that new growth coming between the leaves at the TOP of the p-bulb?

That's not a usual place for new growths to form, my first thought is keiki, but I've never seen them on these.

Or is it coming from the base of the p-bulb, that's the usual way for these to grow.

I gave up on Milts -- my apt gets too warm and arid for their liking.

Gardengirl, your temps sound about right though you will want to make sure it isn't a drafty window. Btw, what type of Nep is your avatar?

As I recall, light-wise more of an intermediate level -- morning or evening sun being fine but not the hot midday sun.

It's not drafty enough to cause the curtain to move, but it quite cold when the shutters are closed. I think with them gone and the film or a sheer it should be ok.

But just in case what are signs to look for?

The nep was totally awesome!! I'd have to look through old posts in the carnivore thread, I can't remember what it was. I had it going soooooo healthy! It tripled in size, it was so happy. Then it outgrew it's pot and when I transplanted it (I couldn't find a 6" pot so I had to go to 8") it hated me for it and even with the same care it just shriveled and died on me. I was so upset! Every time I went to the store where I got him all the ones who didn't sell looked so sad. And they were all in a nice warm greenhouse! I took better care of him then they did. Oh well. I think I will try again though, they are a fun plant and everyone who visited just loved it!

Tell me a specifically as you can where you're looking and I can take another photo of that area. I looked today and all I see is this spike and one opposite it, but I could easily be missing something.
