I bought this orchid which had a tag that said pacific pagan Kilauea.

I have it in a north and west window.
I just watered it slightly with fertilizer just until with water dripped out from the bottom.

The bulb did slightly wrinkle but im afraid to soak it bc of rot.

If anyome has any information on it please let me know, thanks.

Looks nice!

I'd water a bit more thoroughly (water running through the pot) - it may go a bit longer between waterings that way. Don't let potting media dry out completely.

It looks like it is in great condition. Yes, the water should go through the pot. This is to rinse out any salts. I am not so sure that window and position will give it enough light, but it may just be the time of day you took the picture. One more bulb and it will need a new pot.

Nice plant. I too would water it a bit more although afterward I would let it dry off pretty much. The media looks very fine which is ok for the grower but not for those of us who struggle with lower temps and little air movement. Wet/cool....death. One thing that can help dry the center out better is to take a wooden kebab skewer and round off the end a bit so it is dull and round. Then poke holes into the media all the way to the bottom of the pot. I have used this on badly grown orchids in compacted media where I couldn't repot it due to bad timimg. 5 or 6 evenly spaced holes would help dry the center out a bit. When you repot this remember these like to be potted in small pots. Small and shallow is good. With their numerous thin roots I place something underneath the root ball to help spread it out. I think Sonya uses small net pots under hers. Just something to help spread out the roots.

Another option is to use lava rock in most of the pot with a tiny layer of more organic material at the root line. I have moved to using spanish moss because it drys quickly. Finer bark is good too. And any pot, if it is a regular green plastic pot like I see in your pictures, needs holes drilled in them. These guys are serious.the roots need air.

See, hate to say it but unless they are sold for the hobby grower trade, or professional trade, what pots and media they come in is there to keep them alive till their flowers fade. Many people just throw them in the garbage.

That pot has slits and holes. I have a few of them from previous orchids. Thanks for your reply.
