Default Howeara Lava Burst 'Puanani' AM/AOS

(Howeara Mini-Primi x Rodrigueza secunda)

The RHS has changed the name of this orchid genus. Originally called Howeara, it is now Leomesezia. Howeara or Leomesezia is a secondary hybrid that resulted from a combination of (Leochilus, Oncidium and Rodrigueza) but I will stick to my tag give and take five years that the RHS I am very sure will rename this again. This is a compact to miniature hybrid that produces a cluster of vibrant red-orange flowers heavily mottled and spotted darker red. Mature plants will produce branched inflorescences with up to 30 flowers but this has sulked on me since I have repotted it from being mounted with charcoal, bark, lava rock, sponge rock and tree fern shards.....my environment has humidity issues in winter. I do not cut the spikes until they turn brown since they branch out new buds on the lower nodes….this prefer to be kept pot bound. I might get some divisions and try this on S/H.
I give this warm temperate with humidity 50% and over on medium light on the west facing window of the kitchen and allow it to dry in-between watering. I feed this orchid plant with K-lite and seaweed mix. This doesn’t need rest.
This is an ever faithful bloomer this time of year.

That's a beautiful rich colour you have there! This little one is a fav of mine, one of the only plants I have managed to re-bloomed myself....YET I moved mine over to S/H a month or so ago and I think it appreciates the more consistent moisture. Hopefully more blooms to come. I am very new to S/H - total of 2 candidates have made the switch, so far no casualties. Let us know how you Lava Burst likes it
