Blooms pretty much year round. Not terribly showy, but cute space-saver.

This plant is pretty high on my "need to have it now" list, but I guess they're kinda hard to find. What do you do to avoid the "blooming itself to death" phenomenon?

Nothing, to be honest. Just accept the fact that even in nature it is a short-lived plant. My hope is that it will produce a new fan/keiki before burn-out.

That sounds kind of terrifying. Maybe I'll hold off on this species then. Looks great though! Post more pictures so we can admire

Not really. They are not typically terribly expensive plants. (I think I paid $12-15 for this one.) Short-lived in this case generally means at least 3 yrs (and I know folks who have had theirs a fair bit longer). And considering they tend to have a bloom or blooms throughout the year, you still get a good deal of mileage or bang for the buck out of them.
