Miltassia brown spots

I got this Miltassia Golden Spider 'Copius' and when it was delivered the spikes were folded over to fit in the box. I repoted it and lost a new division off of it. I've also lost some of the older leaves which I assume to be from old age/ stress. I've noticed that black spots have developed on the leaves. I am hoping that it's from stress or age. They do not wipe off and do not fade after spraying physen 20 on them one time.

I don't grow these so I don't really know. I do have zygos, oncidiums and a burr. Nelly Isler and they are prone to black spots.

I've been looking around the internet and some site say this is natural but I'm keeping my eye on it. It's been getting a ton of new roots and I think a new division is coming off of it. So I assume it's healthy.

I'm still watching it tho.

Yeah, many Onc alliance get spotty leaves, especially older leaves.

What a dreadful way to treat a spike! I have some balck spots under a set of leaves. They are tiny and look exactly like yours. I am going to go out on a limb and say we probably got them from the same place. They do not seem to be spreading or anything, so I am okay. One set of my miltassa's (Shelob Tolkien) leaves went a bright banana yellow, but the p-bulb has not. I think leaves have life-cycles, and it is ready to get rid of that one. I am tempted to just cut it off.

On the other hand, I am getting nice roots and a new bulb, so all is well. I think some "ugly" leaves are to be expected.

Mine was rather callously abused by the sender as well. I hope my next online purchase is treated better.

I have a number of Oncidium, Miltassia type and some of them are prone to spots more than others, all under similar care. Spraying Physan occasionally is likely a good idea to control spotting, but they won't fade away once they are there.

As long as they keep this size, don't evolve in any way, it's ok.

If the grow, change their form, color, then you have to care about it.

An update. Those leaves that had the spots died on me. It didn't surprise me because I repotted it out of moss.

The other sections of of plants (not pictured) are growing more roots and another division. So I assume that the sporting was apart of being stressed. I might dig it up and get rid of that division to keep rotting material out of my pots.

Note that leaves that are on the down side, decided by the plant, may show signs of fungus coming in. The orchid takes what it needs from the leaf and don't waste time and resources to defend a part it's cutting off.
