Oncidium Tiger Crow 'Golden Girl' spiking!
I buy a lot of these from TJ as I love their lemon yellow flowers with dark spots. Since they are common and cheap, and plants are rather big for me, I only have them while in bloom.
This particular one I'm posting is the smallest I've seen. I would say about the size of yellow dancing lady.
I kept this one because of the unusual color. It has much less spots and some orange hue on the petals, which I find very pretty.
I didn't watered it well during the critical time and the new pb matured rather small and I didn't expect much.
To my surprise, it still spiked last month and now I see nine buds, one of which I broke off accidentally.
Just the other day as I was cleaning the leaves, I found another spike emerging from the same growth.
I know this variety can double spike, but I didn't expect any spike this time from such a small growth.
well, I can't complain.
What appears to be like a dark brown stick on the right in the picture is part of the first spike, and then there is a second one kind of buried in the leaves on the left.

Tiger Crow is one of my favorites. Like you though, it gets too large for my space so I have not tried one.

Oh, you will like this particular one because it is less than half the size of the regular ones, yet the flowering is about as nice or better, with unique color pattern.

Try some other stores like Home Depot, the Whole Foods, Lowes or whatever other large grocery or household stores. I haven't been to WV, but from what I hear people discuss and from my little trips to different states, there are many different stores that sell orchids.
but this specific orchid is very famous and popular that it has been mass-produced and distributed.
You can try online and will come up with a few sources where it is available.

At my Trader Joe's, none of the orchids are labeled. Is that the case at your TJ's?
They have beautiful orchids there and a nice selection.

Well, yes and no.
I don't think I have seen any of the phals were labeled.
I have bought or seen quite a few oncidiums and dendrobiums with labels though.
Now that Christmas is over, I think I want to go and see what's in. hopefully all the poinsettias are replaced with some beautiful orchids. not that I don't like them, but the season is over, you know.

Mine is also spiking at the moment. It's a first time bloomer for me. I can't wait to see the flowers! I've only seen them on pictures so far.

Yeah, they are usually quite big plants.
The one posted in this thread is very small, yet produce some very nice flowers with good count. hence, it's a keeper!

Sometimes.
I wish the meeting was held more often, but everyone's busy I guess.
So, I do try and keep the "castoffs" until I can bring them to the society meeting, but not everyone makes it.
