Comparettia ignea
I won this plant, probably a seedling, 5 years ago in a raffle. It is mounted on a slab of cork. I placed it under the Cattleya bench in an open place to the side. The plant dries out quickly after watering, and being mounted it stays most of the time on the dry side. It grows slowly, but so far did never start to rot. Luckily there is no need to disturb the plant by repotting. I am happy that this delicate marvel is still alive and doing well. This year it gives thanks to me by flowering.
Comparettia ignea (Latin for red like fire) originates from intermediate altitudes of 1400-1600 meters somewhere in Colombia, where it grows as a twig epiphyte. In this altitude clouds condensate, it is always humid without marked seasons, you find the typical lower elevation cloud forest vegetation. The microclimate for my plant is much more to the dry side than its natural habitat.
