Default Oncidium cheirophorum variegated

Going on eBay, I often buy Neofinetia falcata plants from three different vendors. One of these vendors recently auctioned off this plant. Has any one here grown this plant? I suppose it would be grown like regular Oncidium. I am wondering how this variegation can be maintained.

Onc. cheirophorum is about as easy and typical as it gets for Oncidium culture, a parent of the extremely common hybrid Twinkle.

I would expect this pattern of variegation to be stable, though it might vary somewhat with light level. And this limited variegation shouldn't affect the vigor of such an easily grown plant.

Nice purchase. Please post again when it blooms.

Well paphmadman, I TRIED to buy it but was not successful. However, I did email that vendor and asked if they had another one I could just buy without going through the bidding process. They did and I bought it!

I have a couple of Oncidium Twinkle and they are very easy to grow and rebloom, so thank you for your assurance and additional ancestral info.

I saw the same listing and got excited because I knew it was one of the parents of the Twinkles. Prior to this, I have never seen a variegated oncidium before, so I hope you keep this thread updated with pictures for us.

Brand new word to me, had no clue what does it even mean till Googling it now, I like actually this variegated form, I thinks it makes the leaves much more interesting, and let's be honest, they are not so much on regular Oncidiums that grow to the monsters with so many plain green leaves:-) I would definitely go for one more with the leaves like this!

When I first saw the photos of this plant on eBay, I actually thought there was something wrong with the leaves. I stopped and looked at it closely. Up until this plant, like you seaj, Tommy, and Fernsdaddy, I did not think an Oncidium could have variegation on their leaves. The vendor told me they will pack it well--I paid extra for a heat pack, and asked them to ship it to my post office for me to pick up. I should have it by next Wednesday, 12/18/13--my Christmas gift!

The plant I'm getting has flower spikes, they don't guarantee the spikes will survive the shipping process. If I'm fortunate and some blooms survive, I'll certainly post pictures, either way.

Hello seaj! Thanks for asking about this plant. I ordered it, paid for it, it was shipped out on 01/06/14 and it is still in transit. The vendor was away for a couple of weeks. I hope it arrives today. I'm hoping the flower spikes are still viable when I do get it. I'll post pictures.
