Here is a Tolumnia blooming in the off season. It is a plant from a community pot that I received a few years ago from Robert and Susan Perreira of Kaneohe, Hawaii. The Perreira's are well known for their breeding of Equitant oncidiums. This is a cross of Tolumnia Seka and Tolumnia Sensation. Click on the photo for a larger, higher resolution image.

That is great, tho none of my "Ts" flowered this year. I sprayed their roots religiously in mornings over Winter and they were in a very South Window all Winter! They look great as they have really grown over summer care. All I can figure, the Watering Regimun tho I am at a loss why they haven't flowered this year! They all flowered last year. I hate to comment like this yet I do not know why they did not flower. Very little scale on one tho it wasn't a bad infestation.

They flower from second year growths. That means they grow a new fan the first year and then soak up energy the second year and flower toward the end of the second year just like cymbidiums.

I notice my Tolumnias and Rodrumnias are beginning to bloom again. Here are a few that are in bloom at the moment.

OK. I am officially envious. For the first time ever, my Tolumnias did not set bud at the end of the summer.I can only assume it had to do with our unusual cool summer (they are outdoors). Oh well, there is always next year. In the meantime, i will enjoy yours!
