This is a Tolumnia that I obtained a couple of years ago from a nursery located on the island of Hawaii. The plant is more mature than most of the equitants in my collection so the plant is larger with a large branching spray of flowers.

When they were named "equitant" orchid, I got it in my head that these plants required a lot of care. Since then I learned that if you 1) keep them in bright light, 2) provide a lot of air movement, 3) warmer space, and 4) water and mist regularly, they will thrive.

Hmmm, that IS a lot of attention required for such a small plant! But these are beautiful flowers. That alone makes them worthwhile.
Well said, Matt!

Another cross made by Gavin Yamada of Puanani Orchids that I acquired a year ago. Nice butter yellow flowers on a short spike. Unfortunately, there are not many flowers.

I would say that right now my equitants are at their peak of the blooming season. I'm just enjoying the colors and designs of the flowers. Here are a couple of plants that recently showed their blooms. The first is Rodrumnia Spunky. There are only two flowers on a very short spike. The plant is in distress and struggling to survive. The flowers are beautiful though. The second is Rodrumnia Hula Lady. The magenta spotting on the skirt makes the flowers very attractive.

These are a couple of flasks of equitant seedlings that I received from the lab last week. There are about 30 plants in each flask. It will take at least 2 years, maybe 3 years, before I see the flowers from these plants.

Your photography is just as wonderful as your unique collection of new and old hybrids. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the compliments. Here is another Rodrumnia in bloom. The flowers have large skirts with lots of salmon colored spots. The flower spike is about a foot long.
